Meet Mr Matthew Hall – Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
Mr Matthew Hall is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in hip and knee problems. He sees patients privately at The Kingston Wing in Yeovil and The Winterbourne Hospital in Dorchester, caring for people across Somerset, Dorset and the wider South West.
Matthew is known for his friendly, down-to-earth approach and for putting patients at the centre of everything he does. He takes the time to listen, explain things clearly, and help you choose the treatment that’s right for you.
Training and Experience
Matthew first studied Physiology at the University of Southampton before going on to complete his medical degree at the University of Aberdeen in 2001.
He trained in surgery in the South West, including specialist orthopaedic training across the Peninsula. During this time, he worked at the internationally recognised Exeter Hip Unit and Exeter Knee Reconstruction Unit, gaining experience in advanced joint replacement techniques.
After becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedics (FRCS Tr&Orth) in 2010, he further developed his skills in Australia. He completed specialist fellowships in:
- Melbourne – focusing on personalised knee replacement and computer-guided surgery
- Perth – specialising in hip and knee replacement and reconstruction
He returned to the UK to continue his advanced training before being appointed as a Consultant at Yeovil District Hospital in 2013.
What He Specialises In
Matthew treats a wide range of hip and knee conditions, including:
- Hip replacements
- Knee replacements (including more complex and revision surgery)
- Knee arthroscopy (keyhole surgery), for issues such as cartilage damage or meniscal tears
He is part of the complex knee team at Yeovil and regularly carries out more advanced or second-time (revision) knee operations in collaboration with regional specialists.
